While most college students yearn for their first wild bar crawl months before their milestone, Wypysynzski planned an evening of eclectic music, food and raffles to benefit a cause close to her heart. The debut event titled<span style="font-weight:bold;"> “Keep The Drive Alive” (KTDA)</span> was held at The Dinkytowner and a diverse lineup of musical acts. KTDA raised over $3500 and gained the attention of many individuals that will keep “KTDA,” alive.<br /><br />Roger Wypyszynski, Emily’s grandfather, was a defensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers training camp in 1959. He was killed in a boating accident in the Intracoastal Waterway near Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in 1997. “I wanted a way to honor my grandfather and call attention to the heartache drunk driving can bring,” said Wypyszynski. “My non-traditional 21st birthday celebration is my way of helping people to second-guess that horrible life decision before they make it.” Wypyszynski donated all proceeds to SADD, a non-profit organization that raises awareness among teens and communities about destructive decisions.<br /><br />The next KTDA is a milestone for Wypyszynski. After deciding to relocate to the west coast after the fall semester, she met with co-founder Paul Marshall and they decided to run another event in December.. “We decided that this is an important opportunity for the community, and we want to keep it active,” said Paul, who currently works with several Twin Cities music groups. Working with students and staff from McNally Smith College Of Music and the University Of Minnesota, KTDA will be a held in December and March, continuing to educate college and local communities.<br /><br />Wypyszynski will donate proceeds from the December 6th event to <span style="font-weight:bold;">Student Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)</span>, and <span style="font-weight:bold;">Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)</span>.
